I'd go with a thinkpad but then again, I prefer using linux (fedora specifically) as my base OS and VMs for dev work. IMHO, you can run more vms off linux on a TP than you can on a MBP. If your dev box is also going to be used for other stuff and you don't mind OSX, you might as well buy the MBP.
