Somehow I expect that releasing such a death gene would just breed a race of mosquitos that is immune to the death gene...
- gwern 12y agoWell, yes - it would be the other existing species of mosquitoes. But that would be mission-accomplished if those other species don't happen to be malarial vectors. Carrying malaria is not a necessary thing for mosquitoes to do in Africa, they don't need to spread malaria to humans in order to survive and reproduce.
