I've been hired on the spot with no checks and the company turned out to do things in a random, hurried and slipshod fashion and was always operating in emergency mode. This caused chaos which caused them to burn through people like crazy, which further inflamed the problem. They aren't in business anymore. A company taking a bit of diligence is a comforting sign sometimes.
