The Latvians got that 5 years ago. GDP -26%, mass government layoffs, 30% paycuts for those that were left, housing prices -55%. Once the housing cost factored out (extreme heating bills, unlike at least most of southern Greece!), cost of basic necessities here is not so incredibly different from Western Europe. Youth unemployment was remedied by emigration.
