Sound is such an annoying thing to troubleshoot on linux. I'm pretty happy with the way Pulseaudio handles on the mainstream distros, but sometimes I do more intensive audio work where I need to use Jack and the configuration can get confusing. We can send pulse through jack now and everything works out pretty well, but setting this up seems like a slightly different process on every distro.
