If you're not an experienced Rubyist, I'd recommend reading David Black's book The Well-Grounded Rubyist. Unlike many introductory books on programming languages that focus on making you productive in that language quickly, it focuses on building a deep understanding of the language. When I later read the book Metaprogramming Ruby, which uses parts of Rails for many of its examples, I already knew many of the techniques thanks to David. http://www.manning.com/black2/ http://www.manning.com/black2/
