Ask HN: How was your experience with monthly Who Is Hiring threads?

Who Is Hiring threads are pretty popular and usually land up on front page with many points. I am just curious to know how did it work for you? Did you find a great employee/employer? Did you get to meet interesting people? For people, who were looking for jobs (or hiring) was it any different experience?
