In the arts there is almost a complete inversion of this observation, e.g. Wallace Stevens did his best work late in life, and many others perfected their aesthetic expression in advanced years. The work that software developers do is different than the work of top theoretical physicists. So it's hard to say what the advantage of youth is with regards to a holistic creativity.
