Iran is only a very "young" country (by which I mean lots of young people) while at the same time the ruling class seem to be mainly the older people. So I wouldn't be surprised if there is a very big disconnect between the rulings of the state and the desires of the general populace. For Dutch people the VPRO documentary "Onze Man In Teheran"[0] (Our Man In Teheran) might be interesting.
