"In our meritocratic societies, the difference in intellectual abilities are, rightly or wrongly, the primary reason for the wage and capital gap"
Which country do you live in? I want to live there...

- lotsofmangos 12y agoThe fact that people use the word meritocracy in complete seriousness always jars with me, as the word was coined in satire as a warning. http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2001/jun/29/comment http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2001/jun/29/comment
- random_pr 12y agoThe word is separate from the political beliefs of the person who happened to come up with it (or popularize it) first.
- twoodfin 12y agoExactly. If you're going to complain about "meritocracy", just wait until you find out where "capitalism" originates!
- lotsofmangos 12y agoI'm not likely to be that surprised. My dad used to be a Marxist.
- lotsofmangos 12y agoI'm not complaining about the politics, just the seeming lack of awareness of the comedic roots. If you have read the original coinage in context, it turns much of the modern discussion made in earnest seriousness, to be just a farcical continuation of the original satire, in quite a similar way to how a lot of Chris Morris' work has crept into real-life news and politics.
