there was no "initial scandal"
- ossreality 12y agoLol this thread getting astroturfed hard. "It's about ethics in Zoe Quinn's pants". Fucking gamergate losers. Grow the fuck up you petulant children.
- Uhhrrr 12y agoThe initial scandal was that Nathan Grayson had been friends with the relatively unknown developer of Depression Quest for a long time, to the point of getting thanked in the credits of the game. He then plugged it, here: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/01/08/admission-quest-valve-greenlights-50-more-games/ http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/01/08/admission-quest-v... And also covered her here: http://tmi.kotaku.com/the-indie-game-reality-tv-show-that-went-to-hell-1555599284 http://tmi.kotaku.com/the-indie-game-reality-tv-show-that-we... ...without disclosing the relationship. Which could have been resolved with a simple apology and adding disclosure to the articles, but several major game sites instead responded with such a storm of ridiculous charges that game journalism was instantly sullied even more than it already was. Because of this, GamerGate has been poorly covered in most game sites and rags like TechCrunch, so it's not surprising that you hadn't heard of this.
- smasuch 12y agoThe initial scandal was Zoe Quinn's ex posting a long rambling screed about his breakup, designed to get people to attack her. http://www.buzzfeed.com/josephbernstein/the-man-who-sparked-gamergate-regrets-the-harassment-but-say#.piLPwA4q2 http://www.buzzfeed.com/josephbernstein/the-man-who-sparked-...
- Uhhrrr 12y agoDirect link: https://thezoepost.wordpress.com/ https://thezoepost.wordpress.com/ Yes, this is what first implicated Grayson. I'd say its primary purpose was to get people to avoid her, but any interested parties can read the whole thing.
- devindotcom 12y agoExactly: no scandal.
- pervycreeper 12y agoDr. Greg Lisby on this topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_lzjvu24a8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_lzjvu24a8 Very clearly what occurred was a major violation of ethics.
- Uhhrrr 12y agoI would say not disclosing something that's clearly a potential conflict of interest is scandalous. That Devin, a writer for TechCrunch disagrees is... interesting. Illustrative.
- devindotcom 12y agoI'm glad my position has been instructive!
- ANTSANTS 12y agoIt's pretty sad how all it took was time and a thin coat of feminist paint for HN to forget how corrupt and morally bankrupt these clickbait "journalists" are. http://www.realdanlyons.com/blog/2012/02/13/hit-men-click-whores-and-paid-apologists-welcome-to-the-silicon-cesspool/ http://www.realdanlyons.com/blog/2012/02/13/hit-men-click-wh... https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3587730 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3587730
- brymaster 12y agoThe amount of cognitive dissonance you practice is astounding.
