It's a quality control issue for sure. I got a pre on day 1 that just had its touchscreen stop working. Sprint replaced it with no questions asked.
The performance on this new one is better in every way:
2 Day battery life (up from 1/2 day)
Many cards run at once with much less lag
The slider actually feels solid
