The CEGEP system in Quebec is quite good. 3 years High School , 2 years CEGEP (sort of like community college), and then 3 years university for a bachelors. Foreign students like I was do a year 0 (they really call it that, at least at McGill) at a university, and then meet the Quebec students in our major the next year. So like the French system, there are more chances to get off the train and have a useful credential, plus many students do the freshman year close to home for less money.
