Do you really think the US imposes life sentences for jaywalking?
- astrodust 12y agoPeople have had virtual life sentences for parking tickets. Can't pay them on time? Your car's impounded and you're jailed for sixty days. Oh, you lost your job because you're in jail? You were evicted from your home? Too bad. Then your life is over.

- RealGeek 12y agoIn jaywalking arrests, cops may also press additional charges resisting arrest, assault on police officer, obstruction of justice, endangering public safety etc.
- sosborn 12y agoThey may also just give you a warning.
- PhantomGremlin 12y agoOne time I was about to jaywalk in downtown Portland Oregon. There was a policeman nearby. He said: "Sir, please don't jaywalk in front of me." I guess that counts as a warning. I don't recall if I noticed him there before I stepped off the curb.
