So, is this good news or bad news for current Glass owners?
If it was me I think I'd be upset to see that my expensive piece of kit had effectively (if not officially) been end-of-lifed. (if not for Google themselves but almost certainly for any 3rd-party developers.)
But, I suspect some people would like the new exclusivity and perhaps the rare collectibility?
- lnanek2 12y agoDisappointed owner here. I'm a developer, but I'm not going to write software for a product that isn't even for sale. There just won't be enough users, and even if I wrote something that justified the cost of buying it, people couldn't. That said, it was very clear last Android update that Google just isn't capable of supporting the TI chip any more. It was horrendous.
- turnip1979 12y agoMe too. Kinda annoying I paid 1500 to be a beta tester for a product that never properly launched. Explorer ... yeah.
- Chronic30 12y agoAre you really that surprised that Google shut down one of their products?
- owenwil 12y agoIt's pretty bad; it seems Google is sunsetting the product. We just don't know if that means it'll turn off the servers that support it too, yet.
- msabalau 12y agoI wouldn't want to speak for other explorers, but if a next gen commercial product can build on the potential, create a better product, and create a way for developers to make money, that's a great thing. The current iteration and program seemed to have reached the end of its ability to generate new insight. I'm happy with my participation, it was a chance to play around with a bit of what the future could be like. It was like owning a Nokia internet tablet back in the day. You could see what it would be like to make (skype) calls , stream music, and use apps on a connected computer in your pocket. But that didn't mean that one didn't think it was a great thing when the iPhone came out, and pushed the vision at consumer scale.
