Author here. Yeah, I totally agree about moving up market and pushing your rate ...as an independent. However, keep in mind the primary audience is for those starting out with freelancing while maintaining a full time job... side work. I would have spent more time getting into details and nuance, the article was already running long. That might be a write up unto itself. You are right though, we don't want a race to the bottom in pricing for experienced people...
