Honestly, and it kinda hurts me to say it, but the belief that blasphemers should be punished is unfortunately a very reasonable interpretation of the Quran. It doesn't take any interpretation at all, it says directly that they should be slain in 33:57-61 for example.

Don't get me wrong, the Bible commands the death penalty for a lot of things too, like working on a Sunday for example.
- rikacomet 12y agoCan I point, that one of the central tenants of Islam is that the only source of Quran is Quran itself. Wikipedia is not a accurate source. But you knew that right?
- kristofferR 12y agoYeah, of course. All the English translations say the same thing, so it's not a translation issue: 33:57: http://www.internetmosque.net/read/english_translation_of_the_quran_meaning/33/57/index.htm http://www.internetmosque.net/read/english_translation_of_th... 33:58: http://www.internetmosque.net/read/english_translation_of_the_quran_meaning/33/58/index.htm http://www.internetmosque.net/read/english_translation_of_th... 33:59: http://www.internetmosque.net/read/english_translation_of_the_quran_meaning/33/59/index.htm http://www.internetmosque.net/read/english_translation_of_th... 33:60: http://www.internetmosque.net/read/english_translation_of_the_quran_meaning/33/60/index.htm http://www.internetmosque.net/read/english_translation_of_th... 33:61: http://www.internetmosque.net/read/english_translation_of_the_quran_meaning/33/61/index.htm http://www.internetmosque.net/read/english_translation_of_th...
- rikacomet 12y agothere you go quoting random things from the internet. This is really not worth my time anymore. Should I say two things clearly? 1. I condemn the attack on charlie hebdo. Do you? 2. I condemn the over-the-top carricatures of Muhammad. Do you? Whether your answer is Yes or No, that is your opinion, and this is mine. For the record, any Quran you find over the internet is most likely to be not genuine. For example, there are only 30 chapters in Quran. so no.33 is just not possible.
- kristofferR 12y ago> For example, there are only 30 chapters in Quran. so no.33 is just not possible. You're confused: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quran#Text_and_arrangement http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quran#Text_and_arrangement The Quran has 114 chapters called sura's, but the book can also be divided into 30 parts called juz'. The 33th chapter is in the 22th juz' of your book.
- rikacomet 12y agookay, since you are insisting this much. Let us hear what your copy says? What are you quoting exactly, and what is your point? You seem to claim that you are not rigid in your opinion and are open for debate.
