A friend of mine setup a simple PHP-based proxy while he was in high school, to get around the firewall. Then, he modified it slightly to scrape facebook username/passwords, and gave the URL to all his friends. :) I wonder whether modern security practices (e.g. https everywhere) will make proxies less lucrative (and therefore less common).
