How does it work now?
- msoad 12y agoFrom what I hear from Googlers, just like any other big soulless enterprise software company like Cisco or IBM. Maybe I don't meet super passionate Googlers. Most of people who work for Google are bored with their job and it's "just a job".
- zem 12y agoi joined google three years ago, arguably after it had already morphed into a "big company", and it's still a wonderful place to work. the main point about that article that resonated with me is that when things break, the company culture is still "we have smart, motivated people - we'll fix this" rather than "who can we hold accountable"
- oaktowner 12y agoI joined Google after being at a big, soulless enterprise software company. Google is not the same. However, it is undeniably a big company. If you want to be at a startup, it's not the place for you. But it does "big company" better than most. We are treated amazingly well, we are well compensated, and we are surrounded by smart developers (all pretty unusual for bug companies). And, in general, people have a pretty wide latitude in heat they do -- especially engineers. And if you get tired of a particular project, movement between teams is encouraged.
