PG may want to examine his own confirmation biases. "I am a nice person and I like to work with nice people. Therefore, when people I work with succeed it means that nice people succeed". That doesn't strike me as a universal truth. My own experience in the world has been that many incredibly mean and heartless people succeed, even in the "nice" tech startup scene. My own experience is hardly a proof, but it certainly gives me reason to suspect PG's perspective is a little off on this one.
