PostgreSQL Hardware Performance Tuning (2010)
- perlgeek 12y agoI wondered what year that was from (it discusses IDE vs. SCSI drives), and a comment in the HTML says "Converted with LaTeX2HTML 2008 (1.71)"
- jvoorhis 12y agoInteresting, but dated, deep dive. There is also no mention of NUMA, and SSDs certainly must have been rare.
- wiredfool 12y agoThey've changed around the buffer cache as well, so it's not nearly the issue that it used to be. Also, main memory in Megabytes. In a db server. How Quaint.
- tomiko_nakamura 12y agoYeah, it's old. Most basic principles described by Bruce are still valid, though. But if you're looking for fresh info on PostgreSQL tuning, buy this: https://www.packtpub.com/big-data-and-business-intelligence/postgresql-90-high-performance https://www.packtpub.com/big-data-and-business-intelligence/... It's not exactly new (it's from 2010, when 9.0 was the current version, and we're waiting for 9.4 to be released soon), but it's much more accurate considering the current hardware.
