Another difference between Android Kernel and mainstream is the power management system. Android devices suspend aggressively. Userspace acquires 'wakelocks,' during which time the device is not allowed to suspend. As soon as no wakelocks are held, the device can (and does typically) suspend. This is pretty different than the heuristics used in cpu idle style power management.
