Is racking pain characteristic of CFS?

  Yes, it can be. Some people have a lot of pain, others have none. The term ME tends to be used when pain is present. Also fibromyalgia overlaps to a very large extent with CFS, and pain is one of its main symptoms. The problem is that all patients have slightly different symptoms and there is no definitive test as yet, so it makes it difficult to diagnose.
