In a TV Guide, could I get away with displaying a rough time?
I have made a TV Guide, http://staytuned.in. In it I chose to not show the exact time when shows are on, but instead show what general part of the day they are on.
The reasons are two fold. One, bad data, at this point I can't justify spending the money to get access to the data that would let me do that. Second, I am not sure its necessary. Many people have on screen guides now days, and if I can give people the channel, and the general time things are they can look it up on screen.
My assumption is that people will use staytuned.in as place to create a weekly viewing guide. A place where they can quickly glance at what is one tonight.

- voidfiles 17y agoI am not following. Are you saying that it doesn't matter how I display time, because in essence there is very little use for my site? I am not sure how wide the appeal is of my site, but it solves one question my wife and I always ask one another. "What's on tonight?". So yes I agree prime time is huge, and its what most of the TV world revolves around, but even in prime time you make decisions about what you want to watch.
- DanielStraight 17y agoWhat I'm saying is... if all anyone cares about is primetime, then saying a show is on at primetime is as good as not saying anything at all about when it's on.
- voidfiles 17y agoso it sounds like you are agreeing that stating its on in prime time is, good enough?
- DanielStraight 17y agoNo. The exact opposite. I'm saying that saying it is on at prime time is completely meaningless. If it wasn't on at prime time, no one would care. Where scheduling is concerned, I think what people want to know is "given that I want to watch this show, which hour of prime time is it on." They already know it's on prime time. Telling them that is redundant. Please don't take this as harsh though. I'm just trying to be clear. There is also the issue of which day a week a show comes on, which is less granular than time of day but still useful. I just don't think telling people something is on at prime time is helpful. They know that already.
- voidfiles 17y agoI certainly don't take it as harsh. I see what you are saying now, I think so at least. I do show what day its on, when a user has a guide they see a daily breakdown of what shows are on that day. One thing I am counting on is if people know what shows they want to watch at night they can use there on screen guide to determine what time it starts.
