I wanted to know about hosting solutions if I want to use FreeBSD. Linode, Digital Ocean don't support it.
AWS and GCE have support, but it seems the kernel is provided by a FreeBSD maintainer rather than AWS or GCE. How stable is FreeBSD on AWS or GCE ?. And are there any companies using FreeBSD on AWS / GCE ?.
- robert_nsu 12y agoFYI- Azure also supports FreeBSD. http://azure.microsoft.com/blog/2014/05/22/running-freebsd-in-azure/ http://azure.microsoft.com/blog/2014/05/22/running-freebsd-i...
- imanaccount247 12y agoI can't speak to AWS and GCE since I don't use them (or freebsd for that matter), but the DO for BSDs is vultr.
- morganvachon 12y agoHere's a couple: https://www.cloudsigma.com/landing/freebsd-cloud-hosting/ https://www.cloudsigma.com/landing/freebsd-cloud-hosting/ https://www.rootbsd.net/ https://www.rootbsd.net/
- jpgvm 12y agoMost of the AWS support for FreeBSD was done by Colin Percival, whom many hold in high regard. Given that fact and the fact that Tarsnap runs on AWS I think it's safe to assume it's pretty stable.
- cperciva 12y agoIndeed, I didn't move Tarsnap over to FreeBSD/EC2 for a couple of years because the platform wasn't stable yet. But it definitely is stable now.
- Fastidious 12y agohttps://vultr.com/ https://vultr.com/ is what I use. No complains.
- byuu 12y agoYou do have to fax them a copy of your driver's license and credit card in order for them to open up outbound SMTP, though.
- Fastidious 12y agoI had no had a need for outbound SMTP, but I read on the FAQ there is a form to fill out. Did not know a driver's license was needed--they have my credit card already--seems a bit extreme.
- X-Istence 12y agohttp://atlantic.net/ http://atlantic.net/ has a 99 cent FreeBSD VPS available. http://ovh.com/ http://ovh.com/ has dedicated servers available with FreeBSD.
- dandrews 12y agoAlso see johncompanies.com - stable systems, excellent and fast technical support.
- rob 12y agoI use Panix (panix.com) who also offers NetBSD and OpenBSD. They've been around for a long time. http://www.panix.com/v-colo/plans.html http://www.panix.com/v-colo/plans.html
- cperciva 12y agoHow stable is FreeBSD on AWS Very. You're more likely to run into problems running FreeBSD on physical hardware, in fact, because (a) a wider range of hardware means more potentially weird drivers, and (b) Amazon does a better job of weeding out flaky hardware than Joe's Dedicated Server Shop.

- iKJames 12y agoI use http://nqhost.com/ http://nqhost.com/ Very affordable pricing, and these plans support FreeBSD: http://nqhost.com/freebsd-vps.html http://nqhost.com/freebsd-vps.html http://nqhost.com/unmetered-xen-vds.html http://nqhost.com/unmetered-xen-vds.html http://nqhost.com/nq-vps.html http://nqhost.com/nq-vps.html
