British, and yes. The latter is also sometimes jokingly referred to as "sudoku" in communities like Twitch.

1. Yes. 2. "Suicide" is a common metaphor, and "seppuku" (a Japanese form of ritual suicide) is sometimes substituted as a more colorful synonym for this usage.
