GTD is great, I just wish I had the self discipline to follow it.
David Allen refers to the weekly review as the critical success factor.
And that's the one that I fall down on and then things slide and I get afraid to look in the 'bucket'.
- praptak 12y agoSee my comment about "The Now Habit". TNH gives insight into the mechanisms that make one reluctant to reviewing the scary buckets.
- barking 12y agoHi Thanks for this just been looking at it on amazon. I particularly liked this review :-) "I actually never got around to reading this. No, I'm not joking. I'm sure it's a good book. I might read it some day, when I have time..."
- praptak 12y agoWell, the book has its own dangers... I mean, now that I have this cool framework for dealing with procrastination, it won't hurt to put off this task for one more day, right?
- visakanv 12y agoRemove discipline from the equation if possible. Instead tie it to something you already do. Don't go to bed without first going through a nightly review, for example. And review it again before you leave for work in the morning. Manipulate your environment to prime yourself to do what you previously depended on discipline to do.
- barking 12y agoThat's a good idea. Actually it's a bit like Allen's "Put it by the door" technique. Doing stuff when you're smartest to help you when you're at your most dumb
- visakanv 12y agoYup! I like to think of most of my writing as buoys I put out during calm seas so I can navigate during rough ones. Same fundamental idea.
- barking 12y agoI like that analogy! It's a great feeling when you're dealing with a once in a blue moon task to discover that you've left some helpful notes for yourself in a place you'll find them.
