Where do you get the number of comments?
- jacquesm 17y agoIt's not 100% correct, since I don't have access to the HN data directly, but using some 'google fu' it's quite amazing how far you can go, and I believe that even if the exact ratings may be off a bit that the ranking would not change. As they say, close enough for government work. If you want more precise numbers you'd have to ask PG, I can't make them any better. Also, they lag by the time it takes for google to index HN. The recent addition of the cutoff freezing discussions actually makes this a whole lot easier tough. The key to the whole thing is this google query: http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Anews.ycombinator.com+inurl%3A55547 http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Anews.ycombinator.com+i... Where you replace the 55547 with a suitable number, rinse, repeat.
- mechanical_fish 17y agoOr you could just go to: http://top.searchyc.com/users_by_average_points_per_comment http://top.searchyc.com/users_by_average_points_per_comment Which, BTW, not only has completely different raw data, but is even more meaningless because it shows that certain famous or insightful, but rare, commenters have very high average points per comment. ;) If you want raw data on any particular user it's all there: http://searchyc.com/jacquesm http://searchyc.com/jacquesm
- jacquesm 17y agoThat's why I cut off everybody with less than 10 comments. You need a sample of some size in order to make a statistically meaningful statement.
