Well, I hear what you are saying, but the definition of "open source software" is: software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified.
This is not software, so there is no "source code" per-se. But the original high-resolution images are "made freely available and may be redistributed and modified" so I thought that "open source photos" was an appropriate name.
