If Spotify can provide the revenue that matches traditional means then I don't think Swift is likely to leave. Make the model more viable than the existing model and you won't have people leave it.
If people are going to pirate anyways then she'll be back, but it seems like she made a pretty smart move to me. Maybe it won't work for everyone, but I don't think she was telling everyone to leave Spotify.
- tormeh 12y agoI think Spotify provides more per listener over a lifetime than any other medium. The problem is that small labels and artists don't get anything of that. It's the big four labels that gets almost all of it. That's the only explanation for how Spotify pays out so much, yet artists receive so little.

- asabil 12y agoOnly 3 majors left, EMI has been acquired by Universal and Warner. Also the problem is in the payout from the labels to the artists signed to them.
- slingerofwheat 12y agoShe was getting $6 million a year.
- dwild 12y agoShe wasn't. > At our current size, payouts for a top artist like Taylor Swift (before she pulled her catalog) are on track to exceed $6 million a year, and that’s only growing – we expect that number to double again in a year. https://news.spotify.com/us/2014/11/11/2-billion-and-counting/ https://news.spotify.com/us/2014/11/11/2-billion-and-countin...
