I think the author takes this too seriously. I live in Berlin where drinking a beer or two on Friday afternoon in a company is like a ritual. I've seen a lot of people that got drunk afterwards, but I've never seen they do something wrong or unpleasant for the other people. Actually I think it's impossible to become an alcoholic by drinking at meetups or social gatherings. For me an alcoholic is a person that shivers and feels uncomfortable without any alcohol in his blood. This means drinking from the morning for months. Nothing bad can happen when a bunch of good people gather and have a couple of beers.
