- melling 12y agoNope. The deficit is $18 trillion. Can't be the reason.
- mateo411 12y agoThe US government's total debt is around 18 trillion. The federal deficit is around 500 billion and falling.
- jessaustin 12y ago...and falling. ...and rising, and falling, and rising, etc. Short-term movement depends on the economy and on the year of Presidential tenure (i.e. expect more spending in year one than year seven). The total over any decade is unlikely to be a surplus.
