I have used SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, SQLite, MS Access(!), Sybase and ... CouchDB! I have optimized queries in SQL Server and Oracle. Most of them commercially (not CouchDB).

They all have subtle differences in their support for the standards. They all have proprietary features. And their operational characteristics couldn't be more wildly different."
Spot on. Not sure how it relates to my post.
