I was without a permanent address during the month of June and looked at doing this, but the overhead seemed way too much. Places were getting taken before I could snatch them up for short term stays, and even then most people wanted months. If you do need to do this, the YMCA has a number of locations with not-terrible prices. I ended up staying with friends, thankfully.
