Ask HN: What data visualization / analysis software do you use?

Hi guys, what's your experience with different software to visualize data on a daily basis (tableau software, pentaho and the like)? In my company, I need to put in place a solution to visualize quite a lot of heterogenous data on a daily basis(trading volumes, technical stuff like latencies etc - quite specific to the sector I'm in, which is algorithmic trading) - the idea is to monitor those charts / tables / dashboards daily to gain insights on our business. I have done something similar in a previous job - it worked very well for our needs but as the frontend I ended up with ... Excel. I just find it unbeatable in terms of features, analysis possibilities (of course when we spot something anormal, I want to drill down - pivot tables are great for this) and quick customization. What's your experience with this ?
