This is a really interesting find. At the same time, I have this lurking fear that it will be misappropriated by the anti-intellectual idiots to marginalize the AI community, cut funding, et cetera. Another AI winter, just like the one after the (not at all shocking) "discovery" that single perceptrons can't model XOR. If anything, this shows that we need more funding of machine learning and to create more jobs in it, so we can get a deeper understanding of what's really going on.
