- cordite 12y agoJust hope that oracle doesn't try to sneak install the ask toolbar with every update.
- aragot 12y agoIs there a reason why we have fewer of those problems with Mac OS X? I can see that the Windows audience often isn't tech-savvy enough to understand that Ask isn't part of Windows, and that's probably also because Chrome/Firefox/Safari are more diligent about managing extensions than IE. But there's a very serious constant problem of spyware/adware in Windows that I don't feel exists in Mac OS X and Linux.
- guardian5x 12y agoWell you named it. Marketshare is still over 90% on the desktop and most non-tech-savvy users are likely to use Windows as well. I can't think of any other reason.
- roel_v 12y agoBecause the markets are too small. Windows is what, 90%+ market share? Why spend n2 or n3 times the effort (as a malware writer) when the absolute highest upshot is a single-digit percentage ?
- Alphasite_ 12y agoThere's not just that, we just don't use installers in 99% of apps either, which makes installing toolbars tricky.
- andrewstuart2 12y agoinstall-package java --defaults > Installing: > Java > Ask.com toolbar > Ask.com rootkit
- mahmud 12y agoMore like C: \> instpkg32.exe /DefaultSettings:ALL_DEFAULTS C: \> Cryptically named command with verbose arguments, that then goes on to fire a GUI window that requires manual intervention: that's the Microsoft way.
- zaroth 12y agoNot Any More, so we're told. I hope they prove it.
- TheOsiris 12y agoI'll believe it when they let me resize the cmd window
- useerup 12y agoWindows 10 command prompt will indeed let you resize the window. It will even re-flow the text already written, i.e. a long string written that flowed across several lines will also flow back into one line, once the window gets wide enough.
- krylon 12y agoFINALLY! \o/
- SeanDav 12y agoYou have always been able to resize the cmd window, not sure what you mean here.
