I think the picture sharing social network meme came around after the whole Color fiasco. Which makes it pretty understandable to me as the codeword for "crappy startup". Actually, I think Color had an interesting idea or two, and might have worked (eventually) on some interesting problems. But the whole thing was a high-profile disaster and so it indirectly became the poster boy for bad startups.
