Is it sad my first thought was: There goes any chance for Amazon Instant Video on Chromecast and/or Android TV for the foreseeable future?
- pbreit 12y agoYes, but mostly because it's probably untrue.
- doughj3 12y agoWhy do you say that? There still isn't an Amazon Instant Video for Android; it's only available on FireOS devices.
- nirvdrum 12y agoIt's available on Android now. You need the "Amazon" app, however, so it's not easily discoverable. It seems they're trying to consolidate some of their various apps into that one master app.
- myko 12y agoAFAIK that doesn't work on the tablet (lol, yes - Amazon makes a separate Android app for tablet and phone), and it doesn't work with Chromecast. Whenever I want to watch Amazon content I have to switch over to my gaming console. It's really silly.
- commandar 12y agoCan confirm - the Amazon tablet app still says my Nexus 7 is incompatible with Amazon Instant Video.
- derobert 12y agoOdd — just tried Amazon Instant Video (from the Amazon app) on my Nexus 10 and it works.
- nirvdrum 12y agoAhh, weird. Well, it works well enough on my phone if it's any consolation.
- fpgeek 12y agoWhy do you say that? With the benefit of hindsight, we can see that Android phones didn't get AIV until it was clear the Fire Phone flopped. And unless you mess around with sideloading, it still isn't supported on Android tablets (non-cellular ones, at least). And, from what I've heard, Android TV (or at least ADT-1) doesn't support the Google TV app even though it probably works (or, at worst, can be trivially made to).
- zwily 12y agoAmazon profits off the content sales. The hardware is to drive that, so they typically don't care how you watch the content.

- pbreit 12y agoIt took forever just to get the Instant Video app on Android and still with a very clumsy installation process. But it did make it eventually. So, I don't think the evidence supports that assertion.
