I kind of did this once, actually during my first job as a programmer. It was a remote position, and for 6 months me and my friend/co-worker lived in the Guanacaste area of Costa Rica (Playa Avellanas). It was a really great experience, though we often wished we had more time to explore instead of constantly being under pressure with too much work. I'm actually going back to visit for 9 days in December and I can't wait to experience being just a tourist
