"In February he published an article in Politico celebrating a projection that the Affordable Care Act might result in millions of workers’ scaling back from full-time to part-time jobs."
This would be great if it was voluntary! But if it's the result of employers purposefully reducing hours for their employees with the goal of dodging providing benefits, then it's a lot less awesome. Because that means that people are going to both make less money (reduced hours) AND have to pay for health insurance out of pocket (in the exchanges). It's a double-whammy that might cause people to forego coverage; the exact opposite effect of what was intended.
- triangleman 12y agoThat's what I thought was going on here, but looking at the CBO FAQ[1] on the projection and it seems to be based more on the cost/benefit equation for workers. But yes, the "29.5 hour workweek" is an unfortunate result of the ACA. [1]: https://www.cbo.gov/publication/45096 https://www.cbo.gov/publication/45096
- Kalium 12y agoAs I recall, that was based on the number of people surveyed who say that they work full-time solely because it gets them benefits.
