Flexport is hiring an accountant

Flexport is a venture-backed customs brokerage and freight forwarder built around a modern web application. Our mission is to make it easier for any two businesses on the planet to trade without regard for geographic, cultural, or regulatory boundaries. We are funded by Google Ventures, Bloomberg Beta, First Round Capital, Y-Combinator and other world class investors. In the last 3 months we’ve grown revenues by over 2000% and are ready to upgrade our accounting processes and controls. We are looking for an experienced accountant to take ownership of this function to support our rapid growth and lay down a solid foundation for long-term success. The ideal candidate will excel at improving discipline and organization in an environment of uncertainty. You should thrive at identifying simple solutions to complex problems. And you should be an outstanding verbal and written communicator who is not afraid to challenge the status quo when logic and reason require it. This position reports to senior leadership, who will depend on the systems you develop for accurate and timely reporting. Since you will be the first hire in this function, there is room for shaping it and growing into more senior control roles. RESPONSIBILITIES * Define and implement rigorous accounting processes and controls * Manage all accounting functions, including A/R, A/P, cash flow management and financial * Develop revenue recognition and other accounting policies, processes and internal controls, consistent with GAAP * Ensure accurate and timely development of financial statements * Overseeing budgeting and financial planning processes * Tax Return Preparation (in cooperation with an external accounting company) * Develop and analyze operating metrics to support growth of SAAS-based business * Identify inefficiencies and cost-saving opportunities * Install simple KPI dashboard to steer and track business and operational performance REQUIREMENTS   * 3+ years of professional accounting experience * Experience with freight forwarding industries and/or accounting for SAAS-based software companies * Team player who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves * Passionate about Flexport's opportunity and excited to work in startup environment * Detail oriented * Big 4 accounting firm experience preferred * B.A. in Finance or Accounting
