Does anybody have any idea why sites like this one and youtube don't make the video stream available as a .avi, .mpeg, or something else that's actually usable? It seems really strange to wrap something as simple as video in a closed wrapper like that, especially when the site hosting the content doesn't appear to have any concern about the copyright status of the video. I can understand it for hulu, comedycentral, etc, but why youtube and viddler?
- briansmith 17y agoTurn off Adblock and you will see why.
- cema 17y agoRealPlayer Download add-on for Firefox helps.
- sketerpot 17y agoFor those of us who don't want to use RealPlayer, I've found that DownloadHelper does a fine job of downloading flash videos. It supports most of the video sites out there, and has a bunch of features in case you need them. http://www.downloadhelper.net/ http://www.downloadhelper.net/ Again, a Firefox add-on.
- cema 17y agoI use both, and you are right: some may prefer one or the other.
- thomasswift 17y agoI think you can download them, you just need to login.
- wheels 17y agoYou can add "pwn" to any you tube video to get a download link, e.g.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foobar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foobar http://www.pwnyoutube.com/watch?v=foobar http://www.pwnyoutube.com/watch?v=foobar Google Video also often offers download links.
- tsuraan 17y agoOk, that's really cool. I'll give that a try next time somebody sends me a youtube link. Thanks!
