Serious question: is anyone still using TextMate? Everyone I personally know who used to use it (mostly web developers) has switched to Sublime.

Serious question: is anyone still using TextMate? Everyone I personally know who used to use it (mostly web developers) has switched to Sublime.
- aaronbrethorst 12y agoI switched from TextMate 1 to Sublime, hated it, and switched to TextMate 2.
- jastanton 12y agoWhy did you hate it?
- aaronbrethorst 12y agoPrimarily because it didn't feel anything like a Mac app.
- jastanton 12y agoThe UI can always be updated, being proficient in something no matter how it looks will take you farther than hoping on or abandoning tools based on their appearance.
- aaronbrethorst 12y agoWho said anything about looks? I'm talking about how it feels. Very important distinction, and not something that seems fixable for a cross platform app. I'd been using TextMate since 2006, and I was extremely proficient with it. I only gave it up because it was so outdated (main thread find-in-files, e.g.).
- smmnyc 12y agoI used TM 1 back in the day, then used Sublime for a while (3-4 months), but got curious and started using TM 2 and have kept with it ever since. On a Mac it just felt snappier and more native, but it might just be that old habits die hard. I installed Janus today and keep trying to make the jump but can't get myself to stick with it.
- Tehnix 12y agoI use TextMate 2 and MacVim. Used to use TM 1 back in the days before TM2. I don't know why, but there's something about the feel of ST2/3 that just irks me.
- jmspring 12y agoUsed TM1 for years. I've since moved to BBEdit.
- danh1979 12y agoI've been using the TextMate 2 alphas for several years as my daily driver text editor (mainly for: C/C++, python, shell scripts, CMake, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and occasional advanced editing for email and other documents). I occasionally use vi(m) in a terminal for quick tasks, but I find TextMate to be a very comfortable environment for a combination Mac user/command line jockey.
- _asummers 12y agoI use it as my "I don't feel like figuring out how to do this in emacs right now" editor.
- sathomasga 12y agoI'll be using it now! After TM1.5 kind of withered away I switched to Chocolat.app, but I'm psyched to have TextMate back.
- Turing_Machine 12y agoStill using it here, out of inertia. That's probably going to change since I've been doing a lot more Scheme these days (and am starting to seriously look into Arc). Time to dust off those emacs skills...
- auvi 12y agoI tried TextMate, Sublime, Atom and found that I use TextMate most of the time as the TextMate shortcuts went to my muscle memory. I believe I can change the shortcuts for Atom or Sublime to match TextMate's but I stayed with TM2.
