The chicken analogy doesn't sit right with me because there are far more generations of chickens over a given period of time; and additionally the trait that you want to select for in a chicken is clear. You want the biggest chicken in the least amount of time. Intelligence is only one trait out of many that you would like to select for. Attractiveness, strength, health, etc. all matter just as much. Balancing competing concerns is harder than just making a fat chicken.
