Regarding the trend: I think they're trying to kill two birds with one stone: they don't have to pay a web designer and they're part of a social networking. The last one helps them promote their music and keep in touch with their fans. Btw, some MySpace pages look good enough/decent, at least when compared to full blown sites which don't offer too much info and are also implemented 100% in Flash.
