Google has been working hard to break compatibility in a lot of places, like XMPP and calendars. They just don't care about interop and want to lock people in. Pretty sad coming from a company that made fun of Microsoft on stage at Google IO for breaking interop. It is sort of like a person who litters and creates an obnoxious environment to live in complaining the other people gets to litter more than them.
