It was news to me when I discovered ancient Greece wasn't just white stone and marble everywhere. Almost all of it was painted bright, gaudy colors. In my opinion, it makes them more beautiful.

- nly 12y agoSame in Egypt. There are still patches of paint on ceilings to be seen at the sights there. No sign of any Electrum though ;)
- sramsay 12y agoThanks, I was looking around for that link. I've known for a long time that ancient Greece wasn't white stone and marble everywhere, but I've never been able to quite picture it in my mind that way. I still imagine Socrates wandering among white stone buildings and people leading processions to a white stone Parthenon.
