Daniel Pinker's new book The Sense of Style talks about how correct English usage is a signal to readers that an author has made some effort to think clearly. At a wild guess, the author of the Medium essay submitted here is not a native speaker of English, or at least certainly not a careful typist, because a misspelling like "virusus" for "viruses" in an article ABOUT viruses does not inspire confidence that the author checked his own writing carefully. To write that "that there is some filter, which is not letting civilizations to rich a higer level of evolution" is illiterate both as to spelling and as to understanding of biology. After reading this hurriedly prepared essay, I cannot recommend it as a worthy submission to Hacker News for our thoughtful discussion here.
- screengel 12y agoI guess there was some draft of the article published before, looks like the corrected version is now live. Anyway.
- kull 12y agolooks good to me, I guess some draft was published intead of the correct version for some time.
- allenbrunson 12y agoahem. "It is not a nuclear war, meteorit or terrorizem, but those small organizem which eveolve on a microscopic level, where we cannot see them." From the very first paragraph of the article. If that "looks good to you," then your standards must be as low as the author's.
