Tango: Distributed Data Structures Over a Shared Log
- agazso 12y agoIt's nice, too bad it's not open source.
- nemothekid 12y agoThe paper is available for access for free - http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=2522732 http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=2522732 Anyone can implement the paper and then open source that - from the way the article is worded there might not be a stable/production ready version of Tango in the wild yet.
- justinsb 12y agoThere are lots of open source implementations of similar ideas. Check out anything based on Raft: etcd, for example. I also wrote some blog postings applying the idea to a bunch of different systems: http://blog.justinsb.com/blog/categories/cloudata/ http://blog.justinsb.com/blog/categories/cloudata/
- justicezyx 12y agoA personal summary: 1. relying on shared log for consensus and transactions 1.0. operations are performed going through shared log, there is no operations that affecting shared states will be performed locally 1.1. write-only transaction is done by appending log entries 1.2. read-only transaction is done by replaying log entries, with multi-level summarized log, this is efficient 1.3. read-write transaction started by comparing the reading point, and if no change being performed, then commit write change. 2. use a multi-level summarized log, analog to a skip list to accelerate log replay Overall a marginal innovation over what we already knew. The use of shared log as the fundamental storage format needs verification to prove its usefulness in real-world application.
